Safe Storage Deployment
The safe deployment of domestic energy storage systems requires a robust framework and monitoring procedure which covers the product, the installation process, co-location with renewables, installers registration with a Consumer Code, the sales process, financial protection for consumers, and a central system which monitors the deployment of domestic energy storage.
The below diagram provides you with information related to each aspect:

PRODUCT & INSTALL : CERTIFICATION STANDARD
To ensure the product will perform in accordance with its claims and will be installed correctly….Certi-fi Schemes has developed Energy Storage product and install certification standards in line with ISO/IEC 17067 (standard creation) and 17065 for the implementation.

INSTALLER COMPLIANCE
To ensure the product is installed properly….Certification Bodies (like NICEIC, Napit, Stroma, Oftec, Blueflame, etc.) can assess the installers’ competency and carry out technical inspections in accordance with the installation standard to ensure compliance with building regulations.

CO-LOCATION RENEWABLES
To ensure there is a record of energy storage systems being linked to renewable generating installations….Requirement for installers to register applicable renewable generating installations on the Flexible Energy Register when installing with energy storage systems.

CONSUMER CODE
Installers should be part of a Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Consumer Code….Consumer Codes (like HIES, RECC, GGF) within the home energy sector can police the installers to ensure they are not leaving consumers disadvantaged and have access to free dispute resolution.

PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS & SAVINGS
Consumer contracts should be checked to ensure consumers are receiving accurate performance estimates and savings….Certification schemes (like EPVS) can look at contracts to ensure consumers are not being mis-sold performance estimates and savings.

FINANCIAL PROTECTION
Consumers should have appropriate protection in the event the installer ceases to trade during the guarantee period….Insurance providers (like Acasta, GPI, Redsands, Safe World Insurance Group, etc.) within the home improvement and renewables sectors can provide deposit protection and Insurance Backed Guarantees.

ONLINE CENTRAL HUB
A central hub which records information about the energy storage system, location, and decommissioning dates….The Energy Storage Register monitors and controls the deployment of domestic energy storage systems through its interactive, interoperable notification system.
Flexi-Orb is providing the oversight regulations and registration platform via the Flexible Energy Register to ensure the safe and controlled deployment of electrical energy storage systems.
